Bio
I am a senior in my final semester at the University of Missouri-Columbia and I am majoring in Journalism and International Studies. I am able to take complex issues and distill the information into an easily understood, visually appealing form. I enjoy constantly learning new things, and meeting new people, which is one reason why I chose to be a journalist. I have experience in many areas relating to journalism and am able to use many of the tools used to visually tell stories. Photography was my first step into the field, but I have since learned other skills such as graphics and multimedia design that I can use to tell stories in a variety of different ways.
Experience
My most recent experience as a visual journalist was in the fall of 2007 while working as both a staff photographer and graphic artist for the Columbia Missourian. In Spring 2008 I will be working for the Columbia Missourian as a photo multimedia editor. I will help design and oversee a web page that will provide readers with all multimedia content (photo slideshows, videos, interactive graphics) produced by the Missourian.
My previous experience includes work for HDR Engineering. There I did environmental impact surveys intermittently for over 6 years. This work included graphical analysis of collected data and experience learning GIS. I have also recently completed an independent study program where I learned how to better use GIS as a tool for finding and telling stories. I also gained experience working for two different student newspapers. I worked at "The Maneater" as a page designer and also at "The Daily Utah Chronicle" as a staff photographer. In high school I was photo editor for the yearbook and took many classes in photography and multimedia.
I have experience with many different computer programs and some experience in programming. I also am able to learn new programs with ease when needed.
